Short answer: to be cited by ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, your website must be accessible to AI crawlers, answer your customers' questions clearly and briefly, describe your business consistently across the web, and back up its claims with verifiable facts. This is called GEO (Generative Engine Optimization).
Why it matters in Morocco in 2026
Your customers no longer just type keywords. They ask complete questions to ChatGPT, Perplexity or directly to Google, which displays an AI Overview above the results. These answers cite only a few sources. Being one of them means being recommended before the customer even compares.
In Morocco, very few businesses are working on this yet. On many local queries, AI engines lack reliable sources and pick up the first clear page they find.
A real example: Dromapro cited by Google for “KNX Tanger”
On the search “KNX Tanger”, Google's AI Overview cites Dromapro, a home automation distributor in Tangier, and presents it as an installer offering free quotes and tailor-made installations. The website is also first in the classic results. This result comes from in-depth work: clear pages per service, consistent information and structured data. The screenshots are in the Dromapro case study.
The 7-step method
1. Let AI crawlers in
Check your robots.txt file: crawlers such as GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot (OpenAI), PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot (Anthropic) or Google-Extended must not be blocked if you want to be picked up. Many websites block them without knowing, through a hosting or plugin setting.
2. Answer first, expand afterwards
AI engines readily pick up short passages that answer a question on their own. Under each important heading, start with a direct answer of 40 to 60 words, then go into detail. That is the format of this article.
3. One page per important question
A customer asking “how much does a central vacuum cost in Tangier?” must find a page that answers precisely. Generic pages are rarely cited.
4. Describe your business consistently
Same name, same activity, same city, same contact details on your website, your Google profile, your social media and directories. AI engines cross-check sources: consistent information inspires trust, contradictory information is discarded.
5. Add structured data
Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, FAQPage or Article markup describes your business and your content in a format machines read without ambiguity.
6. Give verifiable facts
Dated figures, indicative prices, installed brands, service areas, results with their source. A precise claim is more likely to be picked up than a slogan.
7. Exist beyond your website
AI engines also rely on what others say about you: Google reviews, professional directories, press articles, partners. Each reliable mention strengthens your credibility.
What about the llms.txt file?
The llms.txt file is a recent proposal: a plain-text summary of your website, intended for AI. It guarantees no citation and not all engines read it yet, but it is quick to set up. We use it on our websites and our clients' as a complement, not a solution.
How to measure your progress
- List 10 to 20 questions your customers really ask.
- Ask them every month to ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google.
- Note whether your business is cited, in what position, and which page serves as the source.
- Cross-check with Search Console: cited pages are often the ones also gaining impressions.
What to remember
GEO doesn't replace SEO: it rests on it. A fast website, clear pages per service and a well-identified business on the web remain the base. The difference is the way of writing: answer first, prove afterwards.
